NOTES TO THE CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2021 Millî Reasürans Türk Anonim Şirketi (Convenience Translation of Financial Statements and Related Disclosures and Footnotes Originally Issued in Turkish, See Note 2.1.1) (Currency: Turkish Lira (TL)) Anadolu Hayat which is associate of Anadolu Sigorta and Miltaş which is the subsidiary of the Company are consolidated by the equity method. The Company has not consolidated Miltaş Turizm A.Ş., the subsidiary of the Company, based on the exception specified in the Circular for Consolidation; as the amount of total assets of such subsidiary was below 1% of total assets of the Company. The Company accounted for Miltaş As of December 31, 2021 and 2020 by the equity method as mentioned above. Subsidiaries are entities controlled by the Company. Control exists when the Company has the power, directly or indirectly, to govern the financial and operating policies of an entity so as to obtain benefits from its activities. In assessing control, potential voting rights that presently are exercisable or convertible are taken into account. The financial statements of the subsidiaries are included in the consolidated financial statements from the date that control commences until the date that control ceases. The subsidiary, Anadolu Sigorta included in consolidation and effective shareholding percentages of the Company are as follows. The information related to the associate of the Company, Anadolu Hayat and Miltaş which are consolidated using equity method is presented in Note 9. Intra-group balances and transactions between the Company and Anadolu Sigorta, and any unrealized income and expenses arising from intra-group transactions, are eliminated in preparing the consolidated financial statements. The accounting policies of subsidiary have been changed when necessary to align them with the policies adopted by the Company. Non-controlling interests Non-controlling interests in the net assets of consolidated subsidiaries are identified separately from the Group’s equity therein. Non- controlling interests consist of the amount of those interests at the date of the original business combination and the minority’s share of changes in equity since the date of the combination. Net profit or loss of subsidiary, applicable to the non-controlling interest are presented under “Non-controlling interest” account under consolidated statement of income. 2.3 Segment reporting An operating segment is a component of the Company that engages in business activities from which it may earn revenues and incur expenses, including revenues and expenses that relate to transactions with any of the Company’s other components, whose operating results are reviewed regularly by the Board of Directors (being chief operating decision maker) to make decisions about resources allocated to each segment and assess its performance, and for which discrete financial information is available. As of December 31, 2021, and 2020, the Company’s operates in life and non-life branches and is not required to present segment reporting since its debt or equity instruments are not traded in a public market. 2.4 Foreign currency transactions Transactions are recorded in TL, which is the Group’s valid currency. Transactions in foreign currencies are recorded at the rates ruling at the dates of the transactions. Monetary assets and liabilities denominated in foreign currencies are translated at the rate of exchange ruling at the reporting date and all exchange differences, except for those arising on the translation of the fair value change of available-for-sale financial assets, are offset and are recognized as foreign exchange gains or losses. Changes in the fair value of financial assets denominated in foreign currency classified as available-for-sale are analysed between translation differences resulting from changes in the amortised cost of the asset and other changes in the carrying amount of the asset.
